DRAGONFORCE To Kick Off US Headlining Tour This Week

DRAGONFORCE by Vince Edwards

Extreme power metal unit DRAGONFORCE will kick off their anticipated US headlining tour this week! Slated to commence on March 5th in Mesa, Arizona, the journey winds its way through over two dozen cities upon its conclusion March 21st in Brooklyn, New York. The journey will see Alicia Vigil (Vigil Of War) handling bass and backing vocals for the band while Aquiles Priester (Angra, Tony MacAlpine) will temporarily take over drum duties for Gee Anzalone, who was recently hospitalized for Myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle. We want to thank our friend Aquiles for stepping up and helping us out on short notice.”

DRAGONFORCE continues to tour in support of their eighth full-length, Extreme Power Metal, released last Fall via Metal Blade Records. Produced in Los Angeles, California by Damien Rainaud at Mix Unlimited, Extreme Power Metal was also recorded, in part, on guitarist Herman Li’s livestream channel on Twitch (twitch.tv/hermanli) with participation from the fans.
Known as the fastest band in the world, the Grammy-nominated collective is based in London, England. Their platinum-selling record, Through The Fire And Flames, brought them international acclaim and was featured as the most-challenging song on Guitar Hero III. Their energetic and humorous live performances have won them fans on every continent.
The group is known for their long, complex, and fast guitar solos performed by Herman Li and Sam Totman, who founded the band after meeting through a classified ad in 1999. Since then, the band has released seven studio albums, including Valley Of The Damned (2003), Sonic Firestorm (2004), Inhuman Rampage (2006), Ultra Beatdown (2008), The Power Within (2012), Maximum Overload(2014), and Reaching Into Infinity (2017). 2019 ushered in the next chapter in DRAGONFORCE history with Extreme Power Metal.
Regarding Extreme Power Metal, Li says, “This album again combines the best of DRAGONFORCE in an even bigger, more epic way than we have ever done before.” The keyboards of the album were performed by Coen Janssen of symphonic metal titan Epica, adding a new dimension to the album. Notes Totman, “We worked really closely with Coen on this new album. We are so happy with what he has brought into this album.”
Drawing from a wide range of influences, the band’s sound combines the sing-a-long choruses of classic ’80s rock with triumphant, uplifting melodies and fantasy-themed power-metal-inspired lyrics. As a nod to their passion for all things video-game related, the band frequently incorporates retro game sounds and melodies into their recordings and live shows.

Artist Spotlight: JJ Wilde

This week’s featured artist is JJ Wilde. Hailing from Canada, this powerhouse of talent is an individual that should not be overlooked. In 2018 the young singer decided to fulfill her passion by pursuing music.  Wilde, knowing she was at a crossroads with her life, took the plunge into the unknown. Such an endeavor has been surely paying off. Recently she has toured with “The Struts” and “The Blue Stones”. Serenading audiences with her raw songs makes for an impactful performance and thus gaining her new life long fans along the way.

Check out her EP “Wilde Eyes and Steady Hands”. The EP is an unfiltered story from a young woman who’s putting her experiences and emotions into music.

Independent Artist Sawyer Fredericks Returns To Pittsburgh

Constantly touring around the USA, Sawyer Fredericks shows no signs of stopping on spreading his musical talent across the country.  Though only 20 years of age, this remarkable individual is authentic and raw with his deliverance when it comes to his performance. With a slue of close musicians accompanying him on this tour, you have Gannon Ferrell on bass, Jerome Goosman on guitar, and Chris Thomas on drums. These adroit fellows all work in harmony. The set consisted of old and new material. Mixed in with songs from his upcoming album “Flowers For You”, his most recent full-length release “Hide Your Ghost”, and older material from “A Good Storm”. He also did a few covers throughout the night, which in my opinion, blew out of the water.

You would think just based on listening to the studio albums alone, it would be purely folk/blues-based. Oh, how we’re dead wrong. Put together the instruments that are used for the live performance(s), and holy cannoli. It’s like rock folk in the best way possible. The storytelling within the songs is that of a seasoned veteran songwriter. I cannot fathom enough how much I would recommend seeing him in person.

All in and all, Sawyer’s performances keep getting better and better. The first time I saw him was back in 2018. He was fantastic then, he’s even more potent with energy now. To top it off, he’s a genuinely sweet individual and down to Earth. Fame can be overwhelming to most, but for this young man, it’s made him work harder and want to spread his unquestionable devotedness to keep true to himself and his music.

Sawyer is soon to be releasing his upcoming album “Flowers for You” in the spring of 2020. Check out his socials and Patreon down below!

RASPBERRY BULBS Shares New Song “Doggerel” Via Revolver Magazine; Relapse Debut Before The Age Of Mirrors To See Release February 21st

New York’s RASPBERRY BULBS — featuring members of Bone Awl and Rorschach — are currently streaming “Doggerel” via Revolver Magazine. The track comes by way of the band’s impending full-length, Before The Age Of Mirrors, set for release via Relapse Records next month.
Issues band founder M. Del Rio of the track, “With the theme of canines in mind, there is a hunt taking place, a spiritual hunt. The liars, the scoundrels, the cowards are running through the fields, terrified and pursued by packs of blood thirsty hounds. The cowards take shape as their spiritual counterpart, the frightened hog. With history in mind, there is a war taking place, a spiritual war. The liars, scoundrels, and cowards are lined up against your army – do they stand a chance? Not against a battle worn and cunning general. This is how you take them apart, sing the song and execute the strategy. It is hard for normal civilians to understand you never break rank with a superior officer without serious consequence. Respect and knowing your place is the first lesson learned and the key to maintaining an effective army.”
Notes Revolver, “Delivering a lo-fi brand of blackened occult punk rife with Lovecraftian themes and delivered through a gritty, maniacal snarl, RASPBERRY BULBS are unique in the modern underground.”
Stream “Doggerel” at Revolver Magazine at THIS LOCATION.
Listen to previously released track “Ultra Vires” HERE.
RASPBERRY BULBS emphasizes the volatile, confrontational attitudes of punk with the discordant sounds of lo-fi black metal and inspirational fever dreams found only in weird fiction. In the band’s own words, “Equal parts paranoia, anger, and insane humor to satisfy the most cynical minds, Before The Age Of Mirrors was crafted for the times where we desperately look for a way forward and we seem, at this dazzling stage, almost prepared to step through the mirror.”
Before The Age Of Mirrors is due out February 21st, 2020 on CD, LP, cassette, and digital formats. Cassette edition covers are handmade, stamped, and signed by band founder M. Del Rio. Physical packages are available for preorder via Relapse.com HERE. Digital downloads and all streaming services are available HERE.
RASPBERRY BULBS is an occult underground band that uses the Lovecraftian lineage of weird fiction as a tightrope to string together the posts staked into Rudimentary Peni, The Fall, Bone Awl, Morbid Angel, Metallica, and too many black metal bands to mention because it’s the easiest way to connect these seemingly disparate touchstones.
Forever defying the conventions of underground music, RASPBERRY BULBS continues to push the envelope via their subversive take on occult punk and black metal. Through maniacal lyricism, raw guitar snarls channeled through gritty, four-track recordings, and a wall of distortion, RASPBERRY BULBS suffocates the listener every step of the way.
RASPBERRY BULBS began as the solo project of M. Del Rio in 2009 but expanded two years later into a full lineup that included Nick Forte (of the east coast legends, Rorschach) and Jim Ning Nong. This incarnation of RASPBERRY BULBS released two albums on the Blackest Ever Black label and toured the east coast several times in 2013 with such underground acts as Salvation and Alberich. Now after six years of silence, the band emerges again with a new LP utilizing the same raw four-track recording style and homemade production known from all their previous recordings.
RASPBERRY BULBS Before The Age Of Mirrors is an album crafted especially for these times where we desperately look for a way forward and we seem, at this dazzling stage, almost prepared to step through the mirror.

AZURE EMOTE: Selfmadegod Records To Release The Third Perspective Full-Length By Avant-Death Metal Outfit In March; Trailer, Artwork, And More Issued

Avant/extreme metal entity AZURE EMOTE (featuring members of Monstrosity, Hypoxia,Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, and more)presents its intense third full-length release, The Third Perspective, which is now confirmed for March release. An extensive trailer for the album including the vibrant cover art and several minutes of music has been posted.
AZURE EMOTE unleashes a sonic masterpiece of musical devastation. The band’s tertiary offering is an invigorating acid trip of extreme avant-garde metal that transcends conventional boundaries. Both puzzling and poetic, the band’s elaborate music paints an abstract picture of existential nihilism, while progressing even further then their previous two albums in both musicianship and ingenuity. Step outside the proverbial “box” with AZURE EMOTE’s darkest and most powerful opus to date.
The Third Perspective was recorded and mixed by Ron Vento at Nightsky Studios (Aurora Borealis,
Imperial Crystalline Entombment) and mastered by
Dan Swanö at Unisound Studios (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, Witherscape), and completed with artwork by AZURE EMOTE‘s Mike Hrubovcak (Megadeth, Six Feet Under, Cattle Decapitation).
See the trailer for AZURE EMOTE’s The Third Perspective RIGHT HERE.
Selfmadegod Records will release The Third Perspective digitally and as a special slipcase CD on March 6th. Watch for full audio premieres, videos, preorders, and more to post over the weeks ahead.
The Third Perspective Track Listing:
1. Loss
2. Curse Of Life
3. Dark Realms
4. Negative Polarity
5. Three Six Nine
6. Solitary Striving
AZURE EMOTE exploded onto the scene with a blast of creativity that perforated the boundaries of extreme metal. The first creation Chronicles Of An Aging Mammal (2007) took the metal world by surprise with its divergent perplexity, and soon accumulated a cult following within the avant-garde underground. The subsequent album The Gravity Of Impermanence (2013) presented a more ambitious and polished offering, yet equally as enthralling and apocalyptic as the first. The newest album, The Third Perspective progresses even further in both musicianship and ingenuity with its thought-provoking arrangements and captivating spirit that sets AZURE EMOTE apart from the rest.
Categorizing AZURE EMOTE into a specific genre is a difficult task with each album and song conjuring its own unique sound. Imagine a magic cauldron of death, black and doom metal boiling with elements of avant-garde, electronic, and progressive metal. Incorporated into this melting pot is a colorful spectrum of musical styles and elements such as the addition of violins, operatic vocals, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet, flute, harmonica, maracas, and more, to produce an array of eclectic soundscapes that morph together within a barrage of pummeling metal.
With creator Mike Hrubovcak (Monstrosity, Hypoxia) at the helm and guitarist Ryan Moll (Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Total Fucking Destruction) wielding the axe, AZURE EMOTE enlists a legion of guest musicians for each album consisting of members of prominent bands like Death, Fear Factory, Monstrosity, Therion, The Sins Of Thy Beloved, Deicide, Hate Eternal, Rumpelstiltskin Grinder, Visions Of Atlantis, Pyramaze, Plague Of Stars, Yakuza, Imperial Crystalline Entombment, and Todesboden.
The music of AZURE EMOTE may also appeal to fans of dynamic acts such as Arcturus, Edge Of Sanity, Lux Occulta, Negura Bunget, Thy Catafalque, Bethlehem, Atheist, Ne Obliviscaris, Unexpect, The Project Hate, Thy Disease, Sigh, Lykathea Aflame, In-Quest, Khonsu, Kartikeya, Alchemist, Mithras, among others.
The cover artwork for each album is just as colorful and intricate as the music, and are illustrated by AZURE EMOTE‘s own Mike Hrubovcak (Visualdarkness.com), also known for creating artworks for such bands as Megadeth, Six Feet Under, Avenged Sevenfold, Sinister, Grave, Mortician, Cattle Decapitation, and many more.

HUMANS ETCETERA: Tenth Album, Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events, Out Now Via Nefarious Industries

Eclectic rock/alternative act HUMANS ETCETERA – the creation of one American-by-way-of China-based Christopher Henry – released its tenth full-length album, A Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events, through Nefarious Industries on New Year’s Eve, the album now streaming on all digital platforms.
HUMANS ETCETERA‘s A Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events was written and captured in Wenzhou, China by Christopher Henry. On the album, Henry handles all vocals, guitars, bass, drums, keys, xylophone, sampling, recording, mixing, and cover artwork, after which the tracks were mastered by Bill Henderson at Azimuth Mastering.
Stream A Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events where the “Big Snow Mountain” and “For The Sake Of Truth” (Live) videos are also playingRIGHT HERE.
While the dust on the release of A Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events is still settling, Henry is already deep in the process of creating the eleventh HUMANS ETCETERA album for release later this year also through Nefarious Industries.
Primarily a solo endeavor, occasionally a collaborative effort, the music of HUMANS ETCETERA is created in the time between work with creator Christopher Henry’s other China-based bands — Fuck Your Birthday and Polyphozia – both in which Henry wears the singer/guitarist shoes. HUMANS ETCETERA began in 2012 as his outlet for recording experiments and songwriting, the artist using the project to relax from the pressure of being a full-time college student at West Virginia University and holding down a part-time job as a photo-tech.
A Normal Temporary Reaction To Life Events is an experimental rock album that sews together a mental unravelling from sides both before and beyond sleep. It begins with lulling hypnotic guitar and drum loops and wades deeper and deeper into a psychedelic mess of anxiety and depression. The protagonist is worried about the future, afraid of riding ahead alone, and tries to gather confidence but breaks down at the awareness of reality’s callousness. From here, he tries escapism via alcohol, and soon succumbs to vivid dreams of being lost in the Daisetsu mountains, hypothermia, autosarcophagy, and being transported through dream-death to a world in which the only currency is hope itself. He stands in the metro station with an empty wallet and feels torn between asking for help or hiding behind a phone screen. The listener must then make the choice: repeat the cycle with the comfort of familiarity or go it alone.

Set to take place at Market Hotel, the performance serves as Sacrifice’s first ever show on US soil. Additional support will be provided by Philadelphia blackened punk metallers Devil Master and Boston occult hardcore punk unit Sadist.
Issues TOXIC HOLOCAUST founder Joel Grind, “To say I’m looking forward to this upcoming show with Sacrifice is an understatement. Been a fan for years and honored to be a part of this!”
The show precedes TOXIC HOLOCAUST‘s previously announced North American trek supporting Soulfly on their The Summoning tour. A dystopian technological takeover drives the album thematically, but the passionately delivered music is vintage TOXIC HOLOCAUST, taking things all the way back to the band’s early origins.

JUNO Award winning rockers The Glorious Sons will kick off their highly anticipated “A War On Everything” North American headlining tour next week! The excursion begins in Pennsylvania on January 16, the sweeping 40+ date tour will hit iconic venues across major cities throughout the U.S. and Canada including stops in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver before wrapping in Montreal on April 11.Joining the tour as special guests are Des Rocs (U.S. dates) and Black Pistol Fire (Canadian dates).
The tour coincides with the celebrated release of the band’s brazen and brutally honest new album A War On Everything(9/13 via Black Box/BMG), that feature the hit singles, “Panic Attack” (#1 on Billboard Mainstream Rock and Mediabase Active Rock Charts) and “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun),” which was the most-played song on rock radio in the US in 2019 according to Mediabase.
Tickets are on sale now at https://www.theglorioussons.com/tour.
A daring 14-track collection of stadium-ready, “dirty, sweaty rock” (Alternative Press), rife with devastating moments of vulnerability and searing insight into universal truths about anxiety, sadness and isolation in the 21st century, A War On Everything was produced by Frederik Thaae (Kate Nash, Atlas Genius), and recorded at North of Princess studios in the group’s hometown of Kingston, ON.  Billboard hailed the record’s “turbulent guitar licks,” saying, “maybe the self-aware band thinks [rock] is dying, but they might just be resurrecting it.” Stuart Berman for Apple Music said, “‘A War on Everything’ heightens the tension between entertainment and inner torment at the heart of The Glorious Sons’ sound.”
Watch the animated short for title track “A War On Everything” here.
The record marks the start of a new chapter for a band who earlier this year landed their first Billboard #1 with “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)”, which held the #1 spot at Active Rock in Canada for 10 consecutive weeks (4 at US Active Rock), spent a record setting 64 weeks on the Canadian Rock Radio Charts while earning CRIA GOLD certification, and is still one of the most spun tracks of 2019 at Rock Radio in North America, firmly planting The Glorious Sons in uncharted territory.
Last September, The Glorious Sons played to a raucous hometown crowd to commemorate the release of A War On Everything, taking over Kingston’s Richardson Memorial Stadium for a 2.5 hour headline set for the over 14,000 fans in attendance. From headlining clubs to arenas and festival dates, 2019 saw the award-winning band play massive shows with The Rolling Stones and Twenty-One Pilots and tour across the U.S. with The Struts.
