TOXIC HOLOCAUST To Play Special Show In Brooklyn With Japanese Thrash Metal Legends Sacrifice This Friday; North American Winter Tour With Soulfly Nears

Crossover thrash unit TOXIC HOLOCAUST will play a special show in Brooklyn, New York Friday January 10th with Japanese thrash metal icons Sacrifice. Set to take place at Market Hotel, the performance serves as Sacrifice’s first ever show on US soil. Additional support will be provided by Philadelphia blackened punk metallers Devil Master and Boston occult hardcore punk unit Sadist.

Issues TOXIC HOLOCAUST founder Joel Grind, “To say I’m looking forward to this upcoming show with Sacrifice is an understatement. Been a fan for years and honored to be a part of this!”

The show precedes TOXIC HOLOCAUST‘s previously announced North American trek supporting Soulfly on their The Summoning tour. The journey will commence February 3rd in Denver, Colorado and make its way through nearly three dozen cities upon its conclusion March 12th in Houston, Texas. Additional support will be provided by X-Method, Madzilla, Skinflint, and Systemhouse 33. See all confirmed dates below.

TOXIC HOLOCAUST continues to tour in support of their latest full-length, Primal Future: 2019, released in October via Entertainment One (“eOne”). An ambitious new mission statement from founder/principal songwriter Joel Grind, the man whose guiding forces remain Discharge, Megadeth, Venom, English Dogs, Nuclear Assault, D.R.I., and G.B.H., all juiced by the unrelenting, feverish, urgent power of a modern metal trailblazer, TOXIC HOLOCAUST 2.0 detonates like doomsday all over Primal Future: 2019. A dystopian technological takeover drives the album thematically, but the passionately delivered music is vintage TOXIC HOLOCAUST, taking things all the way back to the band’s early origins.

THE GLORIOUS SONS KICK OF MASSIVE NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINE TOUR NEXT WEEK

JUNO Award winning rockers The Glorious Sons will kick off their highly anticipated “A War On Everything” North American headlining tour next week! The excursion begins in Pennsylvania on January 16, the sweeping 40+ date tour will hit iconic venues across major cities throughout the U.S. and Canada including stops in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver before wrapping in Montreal on April 11.Joining the tour as special guests are Des Rocs (U.S. dates) and Black Pistol Fire (Canadian dates).

The tour coincides with the celebrated release of the band’s brazen and brutally honest new album A War On Everything(9/13 via Black Box/BMG), that feature the hit singles, “Panic Attack” (#1 on Billboard Mainstream Rock and Mediabase Active Rock Charts) and “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun),” which was the most-played song on rock radio in the US in 2019 according to Mediabase.

Tickets are on sale now at https://www.theglorioussons.com/tour.

A daring 14-track collection of stadium-ready, “dirty, sweaty rock” (Alternative Press), rife with devastating moments of vulnerability and searing insight into universal truths about anxiety, sadness and isolation in the 21st century, A War On Everything was produced by Frederik Thaae (Kate Nash, Atlas Genius), and recorded at North of Princess studios in the group’s hometown of Kingston, ON.  Billboard hailed the record’s “turbulent guitar licks,” saying, “maybe the self-aware band thinks [rock] is dying, but they might just be resurrecting it.” Stuart Berman for Apple Music said, “‘A War on Everything’ heightens the tension between entertainment and inner torment at the heart of The Glorious Sons’ sound.”

Watch the animated short for title track “A War On Everything” here.

The record marks the start of a new chapter for a band who earlier this year landed their first Billboard #1 with “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)”, which held the #1 spot at Active Rock in Canada for 10 consecutive weeks (4 at US Active Rock), spent a record setting 64 weeks on the Canadian Rock Radio Charts while earning CRIA GOLD certification, and is still one of the most spun tracks of 2019 at Rock Radio in North America, firmly planting The Glorious Sons in uncharted territory.

Last September, The Glorious Sons played to a raucous hometown crowd to commemorate the release of A War On Everything, taking over Kingston’s Richardson Memorial Stadium for a 2.5 hour headline set for the over 14,000 fans in attendance. From headlining clubs to arenas and festival dates, 2019 saw the award-winning band play massive shows with The Rolling Stones and Twenty-One Pilots and tour across the U.S. with The Struts.

On This Night of Ritual.. in Hershey PA.

Ghost brought it’s headlining tour to Hershey, PA on October 24th. This show was one of the many USA dates that the genre-defining ensemble has shared with us. As someone who has seen Ghost ten times on this tour, I can feverishly admit, it never gets old.

Ghost shows no signs of stopping with their stadium tour.  Hershey was no different in terms of amazing stage production and presence brought by Cardinal Copia and the Ghouls/Ghoulettes.

Leading the crowd into what was to come, the intro “Ashes” began to play. Once the track had ended, the curtain dropped when their song “Rats” started to rock the stage. The Ghouls came out with as much energy as a toddler on a sugar high. This would continue throughout the night. Following the Ghouls, came out the frontman himself, Cardinal Copia. You would think for someone who’s seen them more than enough, I’d be composed and know to what expect. I do, but the energy that is poured out is so contagious. The line up of this era is no joke.

Continuing throughout the night we heard both tracks from their latest single, “Seven Inches of Satanic Panic”. These tracks being “Mary On A Cross” and “Kiss the Go-Goat”. If you have yet to give a listen to these, I highly recommend you do so. The 60’s vibe from both songs is unreal. Let’s not forget to mention the stellar instrumental that is “Miasma”. At first glance, it gives the impression of being a filler song. Let me tell you, that is not the case with Ghost. “Miasma” being the banger it truly is, features Papa Nihil doing a hot jazzy saxophone solo. Another notable track that needs to be mentioned is “Mummy Dust”. Before the track, Copia will tease the audience asking if they would like, “Their taints tickled and their asses wobbled.” Of course, Ghost having the best fans ever shouted, “Yes!” Closing out the night “Dance Macabre” and “Square Hammer” was the icing on top.

Ghost proves you can make music that is bountiful and has no limitations when it comes to imagination. Every album, tour, character, performance, and experience holds a unique individualized encounter for each fan and/or concert-goer. I’m looking forward to what 2021 holds in store for this one of a kind band. Ghost deserves nothing but all the success they have and what is to come. (On a fan note, thank you to the mad man behind this band. You have changed and impacted many lives. As one of those lives, it’s a debt I could never repay in a lifetime).

Although the USA leg of the tour may have ended, those in Europe are still able to catch them in November. Check out the remaining tour dates here.

GHOUL The Band… Now, GHOUL The Comic Book!

GHOUL.jpeg

Calling all GHOULunatics! They’ve splattered the stage, now they’re going to splatter the page…GHOUL is starring in their own comic book and it’s being launched with a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter!
GHOUL: Born To Kill is a horror anthology that takes place in GHOUL‘s home country of Creepsylvania. It features GHOUL, some regular characters from their stage show, as well as other Creepsylvanian murderers, mutants, and monsters. The whole book was written and drawn by Ross Sewage, who some may know as the bass player for death metal bands Exhumed and Impaled.
“I love GHOUL‘s music and I love their very real, very true backstory,” said Sewage. “I thought comic books would be a great medium to get more tales from Creepsylvania into the hands of their rabid fans. Kickstarter seemed like the perfect place to let those rabid fans take part in bringing it to life. If this goes well, hopefully there’ll be more to come!”
GHOUL is equally excited about jumping into a new medium. “Ross who?” said Cremator of GHOUL. “Oh yeah, that guy who got me super drunk that one night. He pumped me for some stories about home. I guess he drew a comic book or something.”
The GHOUL comic book Kickstarter campaign features GHOUL related rewards, such as art prints, stickers and buttons, custom painted GHOUL drumheads, and an exclusive t-shirt design. It can be found at Kickstarter here: https://kickstarter.com/projects/1580350557/ghoul-the-band-presents-ghoul-the-comic-book.

SUNN O))) Announces The Release Of Pyroclasts, Confirmed For Release Through Southern Lord On October 25th; Trailer Posted

SUNN O___ Electrical Audio 45 web _photo by Joshua Ford_.jpg

SUNN O))) will release Pyroclasts through Southern Lord on October 25th. The album’s cover art, track listing, and a trailer have been issued.

The Pyroclasts album is the result of a daily practice which was regularly performed each morning, or evening during the two week Life Metal sessions at Electrical Audio during July 2018, when all of the days musical participants would gather and work through a twelve-minute improvised modal drone at the start and or end of the day’s work. The piece performed was timed with a stopwatch and tracked to two-inch tape, it was an exercise and a chance to dig into a deep opening or closing of the day’s session in a deep musical way with all of the participants. To connect/reconnect, liberate the creative mind a bit and greet each other and the space through the practice of sound immersion. The players across the four pieces of Pyroclasts are Tim Midyett, Tos Nieuwenhuizen, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and as always, SUNN O)) founders Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson.
The music on Pyroclasts is inextricably woven to Life Metal. It exists on the very same tape reels, was explicitly recorded by Steve Albini. The brightness and vividness of that glorious session glares through these four tracks, the precision and radiance, prismatic lustrousness of the saturation, the elemental sculptural shapes, the abstract renderings. It is a sister, or perhaps a shadow album. Or perhaps the now apparent miasma or aether. But it also exists in a form of a pause, a time space which exist in between and around the compositional structures of SUNN O)))‘s titanic works.
For the listener or recipient/participant there are deep rewards within the patience of pulling down the walls and letting the music feel and feel the music. To be immersed will reveal great detail and color, clarify image, encourage a depth of focus and stillness which may lead to a quite profound experience. Sitting inside the space of time. A deep form of elementalism, even atomism, and connection with presence moment, time and reality.
SUNN O))) would invite our audience to consider these points of perception when experiencing and listening to Pyroclasts. SUNN O))) would also invite and encourage their audience to use Pyroclastsasa lens to review and re-experience the complexity of the Life Metal album, and even to interrupt its sequence with Pyroclasts. This elaboration can bring the astute listener both abyssal, hallowed rewards.
Pyroclasts was recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio on two-inch tape July 2018 and mastered by Matt Colton through all analogue AAA process at Metropolis July 2019. Four of Samantha Keely Smith’s incredible consciousness memory landscapes grace the album sleeve artwork.
Stephen O’Malley and Greg Anderson would like to dedicate this album to the memories of Ron Guardipee, Kerstin Daley, and Scott Walker.

Interview with NYC’s Steele

Interview and written and conducted by Tess Casto

S1

How did your music journey begin?

When I was a wee lad (around 3 years old) my dad bought me a pair of Pro-Mark Ringo drum sticks and would lay newspaper out on the cushion of an armchair and put on the Tears for Fears “Best of” for me to beat along to. Slowly as I got older I was introduced to a real drum kit and started drumming in bands with my older sisters friends when I was 12. More recently I’ve taught myself guitar and bass and started writing my own material.

Were there any notable influences such as family or bands/musicians?

My dad, my mom, and their broad collection of CDs.

Being in “The Britanys” how would say this has impacted your sound?

I learned a lot about songwriting and melody through writing as committee w the boys. Just from watching Lucas orchestrate ideas, I’ve grown a lot.

Since having a solo project, how does it differ from being in a band full of other members?

It’s more introspective because I’m just sat alone with headphones. Both are different enough experiences to stay fresh and influence one another. In one, you get the joy of collaborating with others and making something special, with the other you get free reign to make something fully personal. Both are nice.

What’s your favorite part about being in the music industry?

Good question. I’m not sure there’s any logic in why I want to be a part of it, but I haven’t gotten a “real” job yet.

Since you live in NYC, do you have any favorite concert venues there?

MSG baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?

Brian Eno, that’s my rock n roll pope~

Lastly, are there any upcoming releases we should be on the lookout for?

Gonna start playing live in September and release two more songs in the next few months. Just made merch, DM 4 one!!

Between The Buried and Me and The Contortionist at Rex Theater

BTBAM, The Contortionist, and Nick Johnston stopped at the Rex Theater in Pittsburgh on their most recent tour. The following lineup was a “progressive” powerhouse.

Nick Johnston was on before the main acts came on. My favorite part about going into this show was the fact I didn’t hear his studio releases prior. I love being surprised and that’s exactly what happened. Nick put on such a fantastic half-hour set. It felt so much shorter than half an hour. I hope to see him again on tour soon!

4.jpg

Up next was The Contortionist. Being formed by in 2007 and hailing Indianapolis, Indiana, this progressive band has been making their stride for over a decade. Releasing four albums and a mass of EPs, their discography offers a selection for everyone. Half of the list were songs from their most recent album “Clairvoyant”. Then the latter was from their previous works. The overall set moved at a delightful pace.

1.jpg

Last but not least, Between The Buried and Me. Another band native to the USA, BTBAM are based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Starting out in 2000, the band has seen many lineup changes but still has continued on strong with two of the original members Rogers (lead vocals/keyboard) and Waggoner (lead guitar/backing vocals). The setlist mainly compromised of songs from both “The Parallax II: Future Sequence” and “Automata II”.  Though the set was made up of twelve songs, the beautiful attribute that has made progressive bands different from the rest is that their songs are quite longer than the normal song.

2.jpg

3.jpg

All and in all, the artists and bands did a magnificent job. Its been quite a while since I’ve been to a prog show, and I was not disappointed!
